IN: Peer Mentoring and Support

Volunteer Peer Mentoring Project

This project will match Volunteer Mentors with people who have expressed the desire to leave nursing homes and move out into the community. Volunteer Mentors are people with disabilities or people who have had experience with disabilities. Since they have gone through a similar experience as their Mentees, they will be able to provide knowledge and understanding while creating a meaningful and supportive relationship.

 We would like our mentors to have...

• Experience with a disability
• Communication skills
• Compassion
• Commitment 

  

Description of duties...

Call your mentee biweekly
Plan and attend a social outing with your mentee once a month
Help to integrate your mentee into the community
Share resources and knowledge
Provide social support
