Accessible Resources for Independence, Inc., (ARI) provides support and services to people with disabilities in Anne Arundel and Howard counties in Maryland.

Accredited Online Colleges
Database of every major college program from all accredited colleges in the U.S. that offers both full and/or partial online course options for those who want to pursue their education. We recognize that people with disabilities want to balance their personal lives which include exploring different educational opportunities.

Administration for Community Living
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ACL is structured to provide general policy coordination while retaining unique programmatic operations specific to the needs of each population we serve.

ADAPT
ADAPT is a national grass-roots community that organizes disability rights activists to engage in nonviolent direct action, including civil disobedience, to assure the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to live in freedom.

Low-cost program for home internet access in the 21 states where home internet is offered. Service provided to low-income households who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits in California. Best Buddies Maryland
To establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Caregiver Jobs Now (CJN) makes it easier for caregiving and support professionals to work as many hours as they want doing work that they love while earning more income. CJN’s online job board connects nursing assistants, support professionals, and others to healthcare and senior care companies that are looking for the best caregiving professionals.

Disability Issues Information for Journalists: A communications clearinghouse providing journalists credible information and quotable sources on national disability policy and independent living issues.

Client Assistance Program
The Client Assistance Program (CAP) helps individuals who have concerns or difficulties when applying for or receiving rehabilitation services funded under the Rehabilitation Act.

CNA Simulations VR
CNA Simulations VR is building the first-ever CNA simulation training platform with virtual CNA scenarios exclusively for nursing assistant training programs in the US.

Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind
Providing a comprehensive, integrated range of services including low vision care and rehabilitation, job development training, and employment for people of all ages who are visually impaired or blind to enable them to remain independent.

Works with national service providers to deliver affordable internet to low-income households per month. Eligibility based on income and household participation in National School Lunch Program/Head Start, SNAP. Internet through Access from AT &T.

Internet Essentials
Program through Comcast that provides low-cost internet to households living in HUD-assisted housing. Families whose children participate in the National School Lunch program as well as qualifying for other public assistance are eligible. MDOD advances the rights and interests of people with disabilities so they may fully participate in their communities.

Maryland Relay
Maryland Relay was established in 1991 to serve Marylanders who have difficulty using a standard telephone. They provide an array of solutions including calling options, free telecommunications equipment and community outreach.

The MSILC is committed to enhancing freedom and independent decision making of individuals with disabilities.

MDTAP- Maryland Assistive Technology Reuse Listserv
The Equipment Link connects people who have disability-related equipment to sell, lend or donate with people who need it. The Link is a free service.

Mid-Atlantic ADA Center
provides information, guidance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), tailored to meet the needs of businesses, government entities, organizations, and individuals in the Mid-Atlantic Region (DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, and WV).

Montgomery County Public Library

Most public libraries offer wireless and internet access within the buildings and in public spaces around the building. Short term rental of tablets, laptops and various assistive technology are also available. Contact your local library to see specific terms.

New Freedom Initiative’s Online Resource for Americans with Disabilities
The site connects people with disabilities, their families and caregivers to helpful resources on topics such as how to apply for disability benefits, find a job, get health care or pay for accessible housing.

National Council on Independent Living
NCIL advances independent living and the rights of people with disabilities. NCIL envisions a world in which people with disabilities are valued equally and participate fully.

Office of Adult Services
Working with local departments of social services and community based organizations to coordinate services for the vulnerable adult population throughout Maryland to promote their safety, stability and independence.

Resources for Independence

Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living provides residents of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties access to use community resources and services to enhance their independence.

Providing support and services to people with spinal cord injuries and other mobility impairing conditions, and to their families and friends.

United Way

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) was created by an interstate compact in 1967 to plan, develop, build, finance, and operate a balanced regional transportation system in the national capital area.
