When you receive a new health diagnosis like diabetes, or your current diagnosis becomes more challenging to deal with, you need support. Support from family, support from friends and support from medical professionals.

Independence Now Consumer Anjeanette Randolph has diabetes and she knows first hand the importance of all the right support. She says, “Research your support – find someone in your family, use the internet, find support groups, talk to someone.”

Over the years of managing her diabetes she has accessed support in many ways. Her friends and family support her by being in her corner when choosing recipes and supporting each other to exercise. Eating well and getting exercise help Anjeanette lower her blood sugar and manage her diabetes. Early on Anjeanette’s doctor directed her to a nutritionist who advised on controlling her diabetes and helped her change her eating habits.

Locally we have a great resource for support at Holy Cross Hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Education program. You can attend interactive weekly classes, call Central Scheduling at 301-754-8200.

Anjeanette encourages you to get “Support from family and doctors – you have to stay on top of your health!”
