January’s service focus is Independent Living Skills Training. As a reminder, Independent Living Skills include skills that increase the ability of a person with a disability to handle daily activities on their own without the support of others. When Independence Now consumers gain Independent Living Skills they not only master skills needed to live independently, they also gain confidence in taking charge of their lives.

Our Independent Living staff have creative ideas for future virtual Independent Living skills events that offer opportunities to gain abilities. Those ideas include events focused on computer and IT skills; a 6-week healthy eating course; interviewing skills; countering digital misinformation; self-advocacy skills; contacting elected officials; and learning the legislative process.

Do you have ideas for virtual events we could hold that would increase your ability to handle life’s chores on your own? If so, let us know so we can make it a reality!
