David Mitchell, Director of MD-WIN, Maryland’s WIPA Project, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 3, 2021. David started at Independence Now in 2008 as a Benefits Counselor. Within a couple of years, he became the Project Director for our Work Incentives Planning and Assistance project, MD-WIN. David worked tirelessly to support people with disabilities all over Maryland to understand work incentives and complicated benefits. He always wanted people to know that working was the best option whenever possible.

In his personal life, David was married to his wife Stephanie for over 20 years and his son Patrick started college last fall. David taught CPR/First Aid and was an active member of the Church of the Ascension Episcopal in Gaithersburg. He sang in the church choir and was a religious educator.

All the staff at Independence Now and consumers who benefited from his breadth of highly detailed knowledge will miss David.

A memorial service for David Mitchell will be held by Zoom Saturday, February 20th, at 11:00 am hosted by Church of the Ascension Episcopal in Gaithersburg. Closer to February 20th the church will post a link to the service. The church website is: www.ascensionmd.org

If you are interested in making a donation, the family is asking that you donate to the church.
