Giving blood is an easy thing to do. The actual process take 20 minutes or so and it is an amazing thing you can do for other people. I remember one time I went to give blood at the American Red Cross and as I was signing in the volunteer behind the desk thanked me. She said a couple of weeks ago she was taken to the hospital and needed blood. She said, ‘I would not be here today if it weren’t for people like you.’ It really put a personal perspective on it for me. So if you are able do someone a favor, give the gift of life. You will be glad you did!
A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. Every year, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
