Recently, the Independence Now team took a day to “Just Be” in remembrance of David Mitchell. Supports Planner Doris Quintero and her husband went for a hike near Cunningham Falls in Thurmont, Maryland. Studies indicate that walking in the woods is a great way to reduce stress and improve your health.

“When we walk in a forest or park, our levels of white blood cells increase and it also lowers our pulse rate, blood pressure and level of the stress hormone cortisol,”

As we approach fall, now is a great time to visit a forest and revel in the changing of the seasons. Visit the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for information on activities and accessibility throughout Maryland’s state parks. And be sure to share your pics with us!
