Hi, I am Shajia Afrin, a Public Health Specialist at the Independence Now Inc. I graduated from the University of Maryland with Public Health Science major. One of the reasons I chose to become a Public Health Specialist is to advocate for the people who struggle to have access to quality health care. I have always been interested in opioid and substance abuse, and I hope to work to combat this crisis eventually.
Hello, my name is Caleb Colbert. I graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health. My background consists of work with limiting the spread of COVID-19 and also helping with educating the public about the truths and myth with COVID-19 vaccines.
Our Public Health Specialists are happy to do home visits with consumers or potential consumers. They can work on emergency preparedness, share information about chronic health conditions, and help with other health-related activities like creating a calendar for appointments. They are very willing to visit when someone has recently transitioned out of a Nursing Facility and needs support getting settled in. Soon they will be ready to do fall prevention evaluations, but not quite yet.
