James has been a consumer of Independence Now since 2013. He was referred to us by DORS. Over the last several years, James has tried several volunteer positions with mental health organizations as a custodial engineer and peer mentor.
When he started volunteering at On Our Own 3 years ago, he finally felt like his life started to come together with a great sense of well-being. After a year of volunteering, he became a paid peer mentor.
At our health fair last week, he was filled with pride as he got to talk about On Our Own services with other Independence Now consumers.
